The Wake the Saint the Sound the Branch

Michael Jones McKean

January 19, 2008 – March 08, 2008
Opening: January 19, 2008 from 18:30 to 21:00

Project Gentili is pleased to present a solo exhibition of sculpture by American artist, Michael Jones McKean.

For his European debut, McKean fills the gallery with a large sculpture containing a mound of clay, an abstract whale form on a skeletal wood armature, a flower arrangement, 1976 Ocean Pacific windbreakers and a 1980’s boombox among other objects and material abstractions. McKean’s ongoing project foregrounds the struggle to reconcile materials, representation, abstraction and meaning—a struggle echoed within the sub-narratives of his work.

A publication will accompany the exhibition and include an interview with the British archaeologist Matthew Edgeworth, exploring McKean’s practice and project with the critical tools of archaeology. This is the artist’s first exhibition with Project Gentili and his European debut.
