Shane Hope

November 18, 2007 – January 10, 2008
Opening: November 18, 2007 from 19:00 to 21:00

Project Gentili is pleased to present the research efforts of New York based artist Shane Hope. Concluding works in development since the turn of the millennium, the exhibition includes drawing, video and sculpture.

Hope’s outsider models anticipate their own actualization in the coming age of molecular manufacturing; the models are drawn with modified versions of software that pharmaceutical companies and biotech firms use for research and development. Shot with a video microscope, the feature-length video details the operationality of anthropomorphic, painterly, dead foliage assemblages animated by hand and makeshift implements. Meanwhile, the gallery’s vacant electrical outlets host spongy sculptural clusters resembling alien ecologies.

This exhibition is Hope’s European debut. A publication accompanying the exhibition will be available at the opening, including the essay Astrobiologies by Eugene Thacker.
